I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

The firm is investing further in its London OMB offering, with an ambition to build a genuinely connected ecosystem for owner-managed businesses across the wider practice. The approach is collaborative and commercially focused, bringing together expertise from across the firm to support clients throughout the lifecycle of their businesses.
The Role
This is an excellent opportunity for an established Corporate Partner with a strong OMB client base to join a growing London offering and play a key role in developing the practice.
The successful candidate will have a significant proportion of OMB clients within their existing practice and will advise entrepreneurs, shareholders, family-owned businesses and privately held companies across a broad range of Corporate matters. You may also act for larger corporates, but the key requirement is that your network and client base have a genuine OMB focus.
There is no fixed following threshold. The firm is more interested in the quality of your relationships, track record of generating work and referrals, and potential to build further than requiring a specific level of portable revenue.
You will work closely with the OMB leadership team and have the opportunity to develop the wider OMB ecosystem through cross-referrals across Corporate, Commercial, Employment, Real Estate, Private Client and Dispute Resolution.

The firm is looking for someone with the ambition to build an “empire” around their client base, who is commercially minded, proactive in the market and comfortable developing relationships through networking, events and business development.
Requirements
- Established Corporate Partner with a strong track record.
- Genuine OMB client base and network representing a significant proportion of your practice.
- Demonstrable track record of generating work, referrals and long-term client relationships.
- Commercially minded, entrepreneurial and proactive in business development.
- Strong relationship-building skills and an active network within the OMB market.
- Ambitious and motivated by the opportunity to continue building a significant practice.
- Sector agnostic – the strength of your OMB network is more important than a particular industry specialism.
