A leading professional services firm is seeking an experienced Technical Tax Director to join its expanding tax practice.

This is a unique opportunity for a highly technical tax professional who enjoys solving complex tax issues, interpreting legislation and providing expert guidance to tax professionals across multiple specialisms.

Unlike traditional Director roles, this position has no requirement for business development or portfolio management. Instead, the successful candidate will act as a key technical resource for the wider tax team, supporting client engagements by providing specialist technical expertise and ensuring the highest standards of technical excellence across the practice.

The role would suit an individual who enjoys technical research, analysing legislation, preparing guidance and supporting colleagues on complex tax matters.

The Role:

  • Working closely with Partners, Directors and Managers across a broad tax practice, you will provide technical support on a wide range of UK corporate tax matters.
  • Act as a recognised technical specialist within the firm, helping teams navigate complex legislation, emerging tax developments and challenging advisory assignments.
  • Providing technical support and guidance to tax professionals across multiple service lines.
  • Researching complex areas of tax legislation and interpreting their practical application.
  • Preparing technical opinions, guidance notes and internal reports.
  • Reviewing complex advisory reports and client deliverables.
  • Supporting tax teams on significant transactions, restructures and planning projects.
  • Monitoring changes in tax legislation, HMRC guidance and case law.
  • Communicating technical developments to the wider tax team through training sessions and written updates.
  • Acting as a technical escalation point for complex tax queries.
  • Assisting with the development of firm-wide technical standards and quality processes.
  • Contributing to risk management and technical governance initiatives.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
