A leading Magic Circle firm is seeking an experienced tax lawyer at the 2 PQE+ level to join its highly regarded London tax practice.
This is a strong opportunity for a senior associate to step into a top-tier City platform, advising on high-value transactional and advisory tax matters for a broad and distinguished client base that includes private equity sponsors, financial institutions, asset managers, investment funds, and major corporates.
The Opportunity
The team has genuine depth across the full range of corporate tax disciplines, with real strength across M&A tax, funds tax, real estate tax, finance tax, and broader advisory work. Rather than operating with a narrow sector or product focus, the practice offers a varied and intellectually demanding workload that spans the principal areas of UK and international tax, making it a particularly strong platform for a senior associate looking to develop breadth alongside technical depth. The team is consistently instructed on some of the most complex and high-value tax matters in the London market, working alongside leading transactional teams across the firm.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
The successful candidate will advise across a wide range of UK and international tax matters, with exposure spanning M&A tax, private equity transactions, investment funds tax, private fund formation, real estate tax, finance tax, corporate tax advisory, cross-border tax structuring, corporate reorganisations, and the tax aspects of complex, high-value transactions more broadly. At the senior associate level, the expectation is that the candidate will take meaningful ownership of workstreams, engaging directly with clients and working closely with partners on the most significant mandates.
Why This Role Stands Out
The Magic Circle platform provides both the deal flow and the institutional credibility that matter at this stage of a tax lawyer's career. The breadth of the practice spanning transactional, funds, real estate, finance, and advisory work is relatively unusual at this level and represents a genuine differentiator for a lawyer looking to build a well-rounded tax practice rather than deepen a single specialism.
The client base is international and high-profile, offering sustained exposure to sponsors, banks, asset managers, funds, and major corporates across a range of complex, cross-border matters. At 2 PQE+, the role also carries a clear progression opportunity, with direct partner access and strong long-term career value within a market-leading team.

Candidate Requirements
This role is well suited to a tax lawyer at the 2 PQE+ level from a leading City, international, or US firm, who is looking for a platform that combines top-tier work quality with genuine breadth of practice and a credible route to progression. Candidates should be qualified in England and Wales, or a common law equivalent, with strong UK tax experience and a background spanning one or more of M&A, private equity, funds, real estate, finance, or corporate tax. Strong technical ability and sound commercial judgement are essential, as is the confidence to manage workstreams independently on complex, high-value transactions. Candidates should be motivated by the prospect of building a long-term career within one of London's leading tax practices.
