Corporate Tax Manager (In-House) - FTSE Listed
St Albans or Wembley · £70k-£80k + bonus + benefits
Our client is a listed UK FTSE company with a substantial global estate turning over more than £2bn.
What you'd actually be doing
Everything (nope, not a recruiter's exaggeration) - the remit spans completing and filing group corporation tax computations, tax accounting, tax technology/transformation, capital allowances, cash tax forecasting, QIPs, employment taxes, BIKs, and ad-hoc VAT advice (across a large property portfolio), advising on group reorganisations, and other advice to whoever in the business needs it that week.
You'd be overseeing a small tax team and reporting into the charismatic Head of Tax, supporting them through HMRC enquiries and providing specialist tax input to contribute towards the firm's substantial business change and technology projects, covering tax research through to testing.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Why you're a good match
You’ve got the grades and the economics background, and your bank internship is exactly the experience this scheme looks for. Apply soon — deadlines close within the month.
Experience fit
Your summer at the bank plus your econometrics coursework map directly to the day-one responsibilities on this scheme — client modelling, market briefings, and deal support.
Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
If you like doing one tax very deeply, this isn't for you. If you've been meaning to broaden out, or you're in practice and tired of advising on decisions you never see implemented, then put yourself forward.
Why it's a good move
The breadth is unusual at this level. Most Tax Manager roles in listed groups are corporate tax only, with VAT, tax tech, tax disputes, and employment taxes sitting elsewhere. Here no two days will be the same plus you'll get direct visibility with the Group CFO and Group Finance Director.
What they're looking for
You should have CTA or ACA or both, with strong UK corporate tax experience, and keen to broaden that exposure. This would suit someone already operating in-house or someone looking to take their first leap out of practice.

Beyond the technical, you'll need strong interpersonal skills and the ability to explain tax to stakeholders who don't do tax, as well as the judgement to know which questions need escalating.
The package
£70k-£80k salary + bonus + share scheme + enhanced pension private medical, life assurance, hybrid (2-3 days in office).
