Corporate Tax Senior Manager

Role Overview

As a Corporate Tax Senior Manager, you will oversee complex tax engagements, providing strategic advice on corporate tax compliance and planning. You will manage key client relationships, mentor teams and contribute to business development initiatives. The role involves driving technical excellence, maintaining high standards of client service and supporting the growth of the tax practice.

Core Skills

Client Focus

  • Understand client needs across service lines and deliver exceptional service to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Monitor industry developments and legislative changes that may affect clients, proactively identifying opportunities to provide support.
  • Tailor services to client requirements, including scope, deliverables, timing and cost.
  • Understand clients' priorities and challenges, advising on improvements to internal processes and procedures.
  • Confidently lead meetings with clients and other stakeholders.
  • Maintain regular client contact as a primary point of contact, using these relationships to improve service and identify commercial opportunities.

Technical Excellence

  • Identify development and training opportunities to ensure team members have the skills and knowledge required to deliver high-quality work.
  • Collaborate with other service lines on complex issues and take responsibility for communicating outcomes to clients.
  • Share relevant technical and legislative developments with colleagues.
  • Anticipate regulatory and legislative changes and understand their impact on workflows, processes and client service delivery.

  • Take ownership of initiatives that contribute to departmental and business objectives.
  • Build morale and foster an inclusive, positive working environment.
  • Put forward considered recommendations to improve processes and drive change.

Technical Skills

  • Review complex tax compliance and advisory work, presenting assignments to Directors or Partners in a complete form. Resolve routine review points and ensure that matters escalated are primarily of a complex technical nature.

  • Maintain responsibility for service delivery, working directly with leaders across other service lines where appropriate.
  • Act as a senior figure within the tax team, contributing to local and wider business initiatives and supporting team development, technical training and engagement.
  • Promote the effective use of tax-specific technology and encourage innovation across the team.
  • Balance risk, efficiency and quality, demonstrating a strong understanding of ethical considerations and taking proactive action where required.
  • Lead resource management, adapting to statutory deadlines, changing project timetables and requirements across service lines.
  • Communicate resource requirements and potential challenges to senior management, ensuring work is allocated according to team members' skills, interests and development needs.
  • Build internal relationships across service lines to support technical collaboration and identify opportunities for joint client work.
  • Encourage resource sharing across offices where appropriate.
  • Develop strong relationships with clients and professional advisers, establishing an external network of potential referrers.

Qualifications

  • Holds an accountancy and/or tax qualification, or is qualified by experience.
  • Relevant qualifications include ATT, CTA, ACA, ACCA or CA.
