Salary £32,061 - £36,363 Per annum | Permanent | Full Time - 37 hours per week
International Sponsorship – this role is not open to international sponsorship

This is a key role to support the delivery of high-quality, timely and professional communication across Education Improvement. The role manages complex correspondence, including complaints, MP and councillor enquiries, statutory responses and sensitive casework, ensuring communications are accurate, compliant and customer-focused while helping to drive service improvement through learning from feedback and complaints.

Do you have exceptional written communication skills and the ability to translate complex legislation, policy and operational information into clear, professional and customer-focused correspondence?

We are seeking an experienced and highly organised Correspondence Officer to join Lancashire County Council's Education Improvement Service.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in supporting some of the Council's most important statutory education functions. Working across a range of service areas, you will coordinate, draft and quality assure correspondence relating to:

  • School admissions
  • Home to school transport
  • School place planning
  • School attendance and legal intervention
  • School exclusions
  • Free school meals
  • And other school related matters.

Alongside these areas, you will lead on the preparation and coordination of complaints, MP and councillor enquiries, statutory responses, Freedom of Information requests and complex case correspondence, ensuring all communications are accurate, timely, legally robust and aligned with corporate standards.

  • Working closely with managers, officers and partner services, you will help ensure that written communication reflects legislation, statutory guidance and council policy, while remaining clear, empathetic and accessible for parents, schools, elected members and other stakeholders.
  • The role also provides an excellent opportunity to influence service improvement. By analysing complaints, enquiries and customer feedback, you will identify emerging themes, support learning across services and contribute to the development of policies, guidance and best practice

About You

You will have:

  • Experience of drafting and coordinating complex correspondence within a public sector or similarly regulated environment.
  • Excellent written communication skills with outstanding attention to detail.
  • The ability to analyse legislation, policy and case information and translate this into clear, balanced and defensible responses.
  • Experience of managing sensitive, contentious or high-profile cases and enquiries.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
  • The confidence to work collaboratively with senior managers and officers across a range of statutory services.

Local Government Reorganisation

The Government has confirmed that local government across Lancashire will be reorganised, with the current 15 councils being replaced by four new unitary councils covering North, South, East and West Lancashire from April 2029.

If you are successful in your application, you will initially join Lancashire County Council. However, as part of the planned transition, your employment will transfer to one of the new unitary councils from April 2029, subject to the implementation of the reorganisation and relevant employment legislation.
