Cost Accountant

Princess Yachts is a world-class luxury yacht manufacturer, renowned for craftsmanship, innovation and excellence. We are now seeking an experienced Cost Accountant, who enjoys getting away from the spreadsheets and into the factories to support our manufacturing operations and play a key role in driving financial performance and operational improvement.

The Role

As a key member of the Finance team, the successful candidate will work closely with a number of functions, including Production, Procurement and Design across multiple sites. The role focuses on ensuring that component parts are correctly costed, reporting the Gross Profit of the boats, inventory valuations and supporting projects to reduce cost.

The Cost Accountant will be able to use their manufacturing knowledge to build relationships with various levels of managers and influence change to deliver cost and/or process improvement.

  • Regularly review the purchased and manufactured components across all of the boat lines to ensure they are correctly costed
  • Work with the Design, Procurement and Production departments to ascertain the true cost of manufacture
  • Develop the Bill of Materials for each boat to support the cost, improve the accuracy of the Materials Resource Planning (MRP), providing better information for the Procurement and Logistics teams
  • Reconcile the materials and work-in-progress inventory on a quarterly basis, working with the stakeholders to determine and evaluate stock reduction initiatives
  • To carry out project work as required
  • Demonstrating strong commercial awareness of products, customers, markets and production processes
  • Undertaking any other reasonable duties commensurate with the role

Person Specification

  • Part-Qualified accountant (CIMA / ACCA / ACA)
  • Experience within a manufacturing environment is essential
  • Proactive and self-motivated, with the ability to influence stakeholders within and outside of Finance
  • Strong team player, able to lead and support cross-functional teams as required
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly to operational managers
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a genuine interest in the shop-floor processes
  • Efficient, organised approach with the ability to deliver to deadlines
  • High standard of IT literacy, including Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint
