Cost Estimator – Defence
Bristol (Hybrid)
6-Month Contract
Inside IR35
Active SC Clearance Required
We're recruiting for an experienced Cost Estimator to join a leading defence organisation in Bristol. This is an exciting opportunity to support the delivery of complex defence programmes by providing robust cost estimating, analysis and commercial insight across the project lifecycle.
Working alongside programme, engineering, commercial and finance teams, you'll play a key role in developing accurate cost estimates that inform strategic decision-making and support customer submissions.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain detailed cost estimates for complex defence programmes and bids.
- Produce cost models and estimates using recognised estimating techniques and methodologies.
- Support business cases, bids, proposals and investment decisions through robust cost analysis.
- Prepare estimates in line with Single Source Contract Regulations (SSCR) and Single Source Contract Office (SSRO) guidance where applicable.
- Analyse historical cost data and benchmark estimates to improve accuracy and confidence.
- Conduct cost and risk analysis, including sensitivity and uncertainty assessments.
- Work closely with engineering, commercial, finance and project teams to validate assumptions and ensure estimate credibility.
- Present estimating outputs and recommendations to internal stakeholders and customers, including the MOD where required.
- Ensure estimating activities comply with internal governance and defence industry standards.

About You
- Demonstrable experience as a Cost Estimator or Cost Engineer within the defence sector.
- Strong understanding of defence acquisition, programme delivery and cost estimating methodologies.
- Experience working with SSCR/SSRO regulations and compliant cost submissions.
- Ability to develop and maintain complex cost models using Excel and other estimating tools.
- Strong analytical skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Comfortable engaging with technical, commercial and customer stakeholders.
- Experience supporting bids, proposals or major defence programmes is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of risk analysis techniques and cost assurance processes would be advantageous.
- Active SC Security Clearance is essential.
