KierBAM are a Joint Venture (JV) partnership between Kier and BAM UK & Ireland. BAM UK & Ireland’s Infrastructure segment are currently delivering the redevelopment project at a Royal Navy site located in Devonport, Plymouth, and we are seeking a Cost Manager.
Role Overview
The Cost Manager will be responsible for managing and controlling project cost data streams to ensure that the Quantity Surveyors can conclude if each project is being delivered within the agreed budget while meeting quality and time requirements. The role therefore sits at the interface between the Quantity Surveyors, Procurement, Finance and Management.
Responsibilities
- Skilled in analysing cost data, forecasting expenses, variance analyses, and generating clear financial reports for stakeholders
- Strong in Excel and systems flows to manipulate and improve the efficiency of large data sets and to understand the requisition, procurement, accounting, and reporting process flows that drive the data
- Understanding of NEC4 contract, and how to manage defined cost, and change
- Identifying, analysing, and mitigating cost-related risks throughout the project lifecycle
- Meticulous but efficient review of costs, invoices, and change to avoid unnecessary errors and ensure accuracy. The primary objective is to ensure the data is trusted by our consumers
- Clear and effective communication of information, priorities, and risks with colleagues and external parties. Working as a team player and not in a silo
- Understanding project timelines, deliverables, and integration of cost management within overall project controls
- A strong grasp of the construction industry including resources, methods, and regulations is preferred

Requirements
Essential
- Strong knowledge of cost management and financial principles
- Highly evolved numerical, analytical, data analysis, and problem-solving skills. Strong Excel skills will be essential. Examples include INDEX/MATCH, XLOOKUP, nested Ifs, TEXTBEFORE / AFTER, VSTACK
- Advanced power query, budgeting, data modelling, and dashboard creation skills
- Attention to detail
- Ability to support multiple projects and deadlines
- Understanding of construction methods, resources, and contracts (NEC4)
- A low ego, high ethics team player
- A critical thinker with a willingness to generate ideas, spot hidden cost drivers, structural inefficiencies, and early warning signs
- Confident communicator
- Someone with a business, accounting, or quantity surveying degree or qualification

- Previous management experience
