Costs Solicitor – Personal Injury

Location: Cardiff

Contract: Permanent, Full-time | Hours: 35 hours (Mon–Fri, 9am–5pm) | Start Date: ASAP


Introduction

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an ambitious Costs Lawyer to join Redkite Solicitors in their Cardiff office as part of their growing Personal Injury team. The successful candidate will work autonomously to deliver specialist costs support across a varied caseload while shaping and developing the firm's costs function.

Note: Due to group onboarding, the first day may involve relocating to another Redkite office. Willingness to travel is required.


What You’ll Be Doing

  • Manage a varied caseload of costs matters (including Personal Injury & Clinical Negligence claims) from budgeting to recovery.
  • Prepare critical documentation:
    • Bills of Costs
    • Costs Budgets (Precedent H)
    • Budget Discussion Reports (Precedent R)
    • Precedent S documents
  • Draft and respond to Points of Dispute and Points of Reply, ensuring compliance with CPR, case law, and costs management protocols.
  • Negotiate costs settlements with opponents, third parties, and external costs firms while advising fee earners and partners on strategy and recovery.
  • Attend Detailed Assessment hearings and CCMCs, preparing hearing bundles, statements of costs, and supporting materials.
  • Provide guidance to colleagues and contribute to training while improving costs processes across the firm.

Requirements

  • Qualified Costs Lawyer with experience in Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence costs matters.
  • Strong technical knowledge of:
    • Costs budgeting
    • Detailed assessment
    • Dispute resolution
    • Recovery processes
  • Excellent drafting, negotiation, and advocacy skills.
  • Ability to advise fee earners and stakeholders on costs strategy with confidence.
  • Proficiency in costs software and case management systems (familiarity with Costs Master advantageous).
  • Highly organised, proactive, and self-motivated with precision and initiative to develop a costs function.
