I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What Are We Looking For?

We are particularly keen to hear from individuals with professional experience in strategic finance and budget management.

You must be over 18, but you don’t need to be a parent or have experience working in education. Often, it’s the outside perspective you can bring that a school needs. Our trustees come from a range of different backgrounds, skills, and experience but all share a common interest of wanting the best possible education for the children in our school.

Based throughout Surrey, we are a multi-academy trust of primary schools with diverse catchments and a wonderful team spirit. The Trust and whole school teams are committed to ensuring a safe and happy environment where children love learning and thrive.

All trustees are volunteers, working in their own time, often in very busy lives. However, we feel that individuals in a trustee role gain a great deal in terms of the satisfaction that comes with knowing they have played an important part in improving education and life choices of children in the local community.
