About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Domestic Abuse and Interpersonal Violence Team as we expand our existing service provision. The service is currently extending its portfolio of work to include a team who oversee counterterrorist and PREVENT activities. We are currently recruiting to 3 Counter Terrorism and PREVENT leads to support the completion of statutory information requests from the Counter-Terrorist Unit (CTU) and provide direct support to Trust staff and their families where children are vulnerable to radicalisation and terrorism.
The role also requires attendance at MAPPA (multi-agency public protection arrangements) TACT (Terrorism Act) panels to share information and ensure robust safety planning for children and young people as offenders are released from prison and managed in the community. You will be supported by the Counter Terrorism and Prevent Team Manager to attend these meetings.
You will work alongside the Domestic Abuse and Interpersonal Violence Service in delivering excellent specialist support to children, young people and their families and supporting staff in the Trust and deliver training to the workforce. You will also be required to work collaboratively across the partnership to safeguard children and young people effectively.
You will receive a full induction and the opportunity to access ongoing professional development and training.
We have been rated as ‘Good’ by Ofsted, following a 2023 inspection. This is a fantastic achievement for Birmingham Children's Trust, with many positive highlights focusing on areas including the quality of staff leadership, partnership working, safeguarding and corporate parenting.
This is a hybrid role based in Birmingham so you must have the correct right-to-work documents to work in the UK. Sadly, we do not support those who require sponsorship.
About You
You will need to be organised, methodical in your work and to work autonomously with support where needed. You will need to have a good understanding of radicalisation and PREVENT and experience of working with children, young people and their families in a safeguarding context. You will also need to ensure timely and accurate recording of information and when to escalate concerns.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
