Counterweight delivers evidence-based weight management programmes rooted in over two decades of academic research. The programmes were developed through a collaboration among leading researchers at seven UK universities, focusing on understanding obesity within the NHS and designing effective interventions. Counterweight’s flagship weight loss programme has been clinically proven to support remission of type 2 diabetes. The organisation delivers remotely and through multiple NHS clinics in the UK, creating new opportunities for health professionals who want to make a measurable impact on people’s lives.
Role Description
As a Counterweight Coach, you will provide structured, evidence-based support to individuals participating in Counterweight’s weight management and type 2 diabetes remission programmes. You will conduct individual in-person coaching sessions, guide participants through programme milestones, monitor progress, and help them navigate challenges using motivational interviewing and behaviour change techniques. - Reviewing clinical and lifestyle data
- Documenting session notes
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams

This is a sessional on-site role, requiring travel and consistent availability at the scheduled clinic time.
Ideal Qualifications and Experience
- Experience in health coaching, dietetics, nutrition, or a related healthcare or behavioural science field.
- Strong skills in motivational interviewing, behaviour change support, and empathetic communication with diverse populations.
- Ability to interpret clinical and lifestyle data (e.g., weight trends, dietary patterns, physical activity) and translate them into practical guidance.
- Experience with digital tools and use of electronic health records or coaching platforms.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including accurate documentation and clear explanation of complex information in accessible language.
- Highly organised, self-directed, and comfortable working in a fast-growing, evidence-led environment with defined protocols and outcomes.
- Understanding of weight management, obesity, and type 2 diabetes, or a strong willingness to learn through provided training.
- Relevant professional qualification or degree in a health-related discipline is preferred; prior experience in NHS or similar healthcare settings is an advantage.
