Country Counsel, UK & Ireland

As Country Counsel UK & Ireland, you will lead the legal support for HP’s Sales & Marketing organization across the UK and Ireland. You will manage a team of commercial lawyers and coordinate a specialist, matrixed, and external legal resources supporting HP’s UK & Ireland operations. You will serve as a trusted advisor to senior business leaders and play a key role in enabling business growth while managing legal risk through a smart, pragmatic, and commercially focused approach.

This role requires a highly capable lawyer who can operate independently with minimal management oversight, exercise sound judgment under pressure, and drive timely decision-making in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead legal support for UK & Ireland commercial activities, providing strategic and practical advice that enables the business to move quickly while appropriately managing legal, regulatory and compliance risks.
  • Support and negotiate complex hardware, services, managed services, subscription, SaaS, and other technology transactions with customers and channel partners across HP’s portfolio.
  • Advise on a broad range of legal matters, including commercial law, competition law, data protection and privacy, channel and distribution arrangements, consumer protection, disputes and claims, and corporate governance.
  • Partner closely with business, compliance, finance, procurement, and other stakeholders to drive enterprise One-HP outcomes and deliver practical solutions.
  • Partner closely with other Legal teams, including Corporate Legal, Employment Legal, Litigation, Global Trade, Privacy, and Government Affairs, to leverage subject-matter expertise, and drive the best outcomes for HP through a One-Legal approach.
  • Review and influence global templates, policies, programs, business models, product offerings, and go-to-market initiatives, ensuring alignment with legal requirements and business objectives.
  • Drive simplification, scalability, and continuous improvement by developing guidance, playbooks, and self-service tools that empower the business and reduce dependency on Legal for low-risk matters.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing legal team, fostering accountability, collaboration, innovation, and professional growth.
  • Promote a smart-risk culture by balancing legal, regulatory and policy considerations with business priorities and customer needs.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
