Country Manager

As a Country Manager, you will be responsible for leading and managing all aspects of our operations in your assigned country. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong leadership skills and a deep understanding of the maritime, shipping, and logistics industries. You will be expected to drive business growth, enhance customer experience, and ensure the successful execution of our company’s strategy within your market.

Responsibilities

  • Sales Leadership: Direct country sales efforts to maximize volume and contribution levels to achieve company goals.
  • Market Development: Identify and develop untapped markets and commodities to expand business opportunities.
  • Performance Management: Effectively manage and monitor sales performance, ensuring alignment with company objectives.
  • Customer-Relationship-Management: Build and maintain strong customer relationships through regular visits and engagements. Leverage your network to maintain robust internal and external relationships.
  • Organizational Management: Implement and manage Hapag-Lloyd’s organizational structure and processes within the country.
  • Compliance: Maintain up-to-date knowledge of governmental rules and regulations, ensuring strict compliance with local laws, tax regulations, and Hapag-Lloyd’s guidelines and policies.
  • Issue Resolution: Provide solutions for high-level concerns and ensure smooth operations across all departments.
  • Cost Management: Review and guide progress on cost-saving initiatives, identify additional cost-saving opportunities, and keep overhead costs in line with the budget.
  • Team Development: Coach and develop department managers and staff, conducting regular performance reviews in line with company policy. Ensure balanced workloads across departments and recruit, develop, and retain top talent.
  • Credit Management: Oversee the credit policy to minimize bad debt risk and ensure compliance with financial standards.
  • Customer Service: Work closely with shared services to maintain high levels of customer service performance, consistently reviewing and improving processes for better efficiency and productivity.
  • Market Growth: Drive the growth of Hapag-Lloyd’s market position in the country and collaborate with functional directors on sales, customer service, operational, and business administration issues.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a Country Manager or similar in the shipping industry.
  • Fluency in both English and French are required.
  • Familiarity with the business landscape in Senegal.
  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
