Countryside Maintenance & Projects Team Ranger
Ashford in the Water, Bakewell, UK
£28,142 to £29,540 pro rata per annum
The Role
The role presents a rare and exciting opportunity for a capable and motivated individual to join our Countryside Maintenance and Projects Team (CMPT) as a Ranger. The role will take you across the National Park, often working in remote and/or difficult-to-access places, and will demand a range of skills. The team are responsible for general maintenance and repairs across the Authority's estate, and you will also work with the team on larger projects, particularly involving groundworks to deliver major improvements to our sites.
We are seeking to develop our capability to meet the increasing demand for building maintenance across the PDNPA estate, so applicants with experience in either plumbing, construction or building maintenance will be of particular interest to us.
In this role, you will be responsible for:
- Maintenance and repairs of buildings across the National Park
- Day-to-day management of some sites
- Grounds maintenance (mowing, strimming, tree management, etc.)
- Boundary maintenance
- Repairs to our network of multi-user trails and footpath maintenance
You will also form part of the team working on development projects such as:
- Car park resurfacing
- Footpath resurfacing
- Minor building and groundwork projects
- Drainage improvements
- A range of other projects associated with National Park Purposes

The post is full-time, working with an experienced team and based at our site in Ashford in the Water, near Bakewell, but will spend most of your time on site across the National Park.
About You
You will have experience of building maintenance, working on landscape construction projects, grounds maintenance and be adaptable and keen to learn new skills. Experience of operating machinery and plant is advantageous.
The ability to manage the health and safety of yourself and others is essential, and experience of completing risk assessments for relevant work is advantageous. The role will often involve working in public areas so the ability to effectively manage that while being able to communicate with members of the public, deal with questions and engage in positive ways is part of the role.
