Countryside Manager (Habitat Banks)
Want to lead the practical delivery of nature recovery at scale? We're one of the UK's largest BNG habitat bank developers, and we're looking for a Countryside Manager to make it happen on the ground.
UK-wide / Home-based | Regular travel to sites
£50,000–£55,000 (DOE) + Private Healthcare + Company Car
About GEDG
GEDG creates and manages habitat banks and nature-led projects that deliver real, measurable biodiversity outcomes, with a fast-growing portfolio of landscape scale nature restoration projects across the country.
The role
This is a hands-on, delivery-focused role responsible for the practical management of GEDG's habitat bank estate. You'll make sure conservation prescriptions are delivered in the right place, in the right season, in the right way, on time and on budget, so that each habitat meets its target criteria within the timescales set out in the Metric.
Core responsibilities
- Undertake regular site visits across all sites within the GEDG Habitat Bank Estate
- Conduct ongoing Schedule 9 non-native invasive species surveys across the estate
- Lead on securing permissions and consents required to deliver site management works
- Lead on delivery of site infrastructure and habitat management projects, via:
- Engagement of contractors, and/or
- Engagement of tenant farmers, and/or
- Creation and management of an in-house Rangers Team
- Design and roll out in-house GIS tools for GEDG staff to capture key site management information

Wider responsibilities
- Work as part of a cross-specialisation GEDG team to design future habitat banks
- Support the wider GEDG team with habitat bank registration
What we're looking for
A pragmatic, hands-on estates professional who can lead the practical delivery of habitat management and infrastructure works across our site portfolio, on time, on budget, and to the right ecological standard.
- Confidence speaking with landowners and direct consultants
- Experience using or working with a range of agricultural and arboricultural machinery
- A pragmatic approach to problem solving, with the confidence to deliver practical solutions quickly
- Willingness to travel (expected 2 workdays per week)
- A broader understanding of habitat banking and ecological surveying is useful, though the role is focused on practical site delivery rather than ecological assessment
