We have a fantastic opportunity for a Courier Driver to join our team based in Ipswich.

Contract

  • Permanent – 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday
  • £12.71 per hour

The Role

The main purpose of the Courier Driver role is to ensure the safe, secure and timely collection, transportation, and delivery of mail, parcels and pathology samples to a range of locations.

The role requires excellent communication skills when dealing with customers, colleagues, and other stakeholders to maintain the highest standards of service. You will use both electronic and paper-based systems to accurately record collections and deliveries, ensuring all tasks are completed correctly and within scheduled times. The role may involve manual handling including lifting and moving mail sacks, parcels and other items, as well as loading and unloading vehicles.

You will be driving vehicles ranging from small vans up to 3.5-tonne Luton vans, which can be driven on the Category B section of a UK driving licence. You must have held a Full UK Manual Driving Licence for a minimum of 12 months and have no more than six penalty points.

Key Responsibilities Include

  • Carrying out scheduled collections and deliveries to various locations in accordance with agreed routes and times.
  • Completing digital and paper-based documentation in line with organisational procedures and legal requirements.
  • Maintaining regular communication with the operations office using approved communication systems.
  • Ensuring all mail, parcels and other items remain safe, secure and accounted for throughout transit.
  • Complying with the Road Traffic Act and all relevant legislation and company policies while operating company vehicles.
  • Acting as a professional representative of the organisation at customer locations and communicating any relevant information back to the operations office.
  • Carrying out daily vehicle safety checks before use and reporting any defects promptly using the appropriate procedures.
  • Providing excellent customer service by acting in a polite, professional, and courteous manner at all times.
  • Following security procedures for the handling and transportation of confidential or sensitive mail items.
