Job Description
This is a new role responsible for arranging all deliveries to site on behalf of the project teams. Based primarily at our Stores in Widnes (Gavin Road), the Courier Logistics Manager will use the Courier Exchange to load and book jobs, liaise directly with drivers, and work closely with the Stores team to ensure collections are organised efficiently and effectively. The role is central to getting the right materials to the right site at the right time, in the most cost-effective manner possible.
Delivery Requests & Job Booking
- Act as the single point of contact for all delivery requests from project teams, capturing collection and delivery details, site access, timings, load size, weight and vehicle requirements
- Load jobs onto the Courier Exchange, review bids and book the most suitable carrier based on cost, vehicle type, availability and reliability
- Arrange same-day, next-day and timed deliveries, including urgent requests when required
- Plan and consolidate deliveries and multi-drop routes wherever possible to reduce cost and wasted journeys
- Maintain accurate records of every job, including booking references, carrier, cost, project / job code and proof of delivery
Driver Liaison & Live Job Management
- Brief drivers on collection and delivery details, site contacts, access arrangements and site rules
- Track jobs in progress and keep project teams informed of ETAs, delays or changes
- Resolve issues as they arise, including failed deliveries, delays, damaged or missing items
- Ensure proof of delivery and signed delivery notes are obtained and filed for every job

Stores Coordination
- Work closely with the Stores team at Gavin Road to schedule pickups, ensuring materials are picked, packed, labelled and ready ahead of driver arrival
- Manage collection slots to minimise driver waiting time and avoid additional charges
- Ensure the correct paperwork accompanies every consignment
- Coordinate returns and collections from site back to Stores
Carrier Management & Cost Control
- Build and maintain a pool of reliable, vetted Courier Exchange members, checking ratings, feedback and insurance cover
- Provide feedback on carriers through the Courier Exchange and address any performance issues
- Monitor delivery spend against budget and identify opportunities to reduce cost
- Check courier invoices against bookings and ensure costs are coded to the correct project before approval
Reporting
- Provide weekly and monthly reporting on deliveries booked, cost per delivery, spend by project and on-time performance
- Monitor and report on late or failed deliveries, identifying root causes and improvements
Compliance & Governance
- Ensure all carriers hold appropriate goods in transit and public liability insurance
- Ensure any restricted or hazardous goods are only booked with suitably qualified carriers
- Ensure full compliance with company procurement, finance and Health & Safety procedures
- Identify improvements to delivery and booking procedures
Key Measures & Targets
- On-time, in-full deliveries to site
- Cost per delivery and spend against budget
- Driver waiting time and failed delivery rate
- Accurate and timely coding of courier costs
- Project team satisfaction

Qualifications
- Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple bookings at once
- Excellent time management skills, with ability to work to tight deadlines and prioritise urgent requests
- Ability to stay calm under pressure and solve problems efficiently
- Excellent telephone manner and communication skills, with the confidence to deal with drivers, carriers and site teams
- Excellent team player whilst also having the ability to work independently
- Strong attention to detail and accurate record keeping
- Cost-conscious, with a commercially aware approach
- Self-motivated and pro-active
Additional Information
- Experience using the Courier Exchange (or a similar freight exchange platform) to load and book jobs (not essential)
- Previous experience in a courier, transport or logistics coordination role, ideally within construction, utilities or telecoms (not essential)
- Good knowledge of UK geography and an understanding of vehicle types and payloads
- Accomplished in outlook, excel and proficient in the rest of the Microsoft suite of packages
