Course Information

Course Code and Title:
EDEC 301-001. Special Topics 2.
Topic: Happiness in Education

Description:
Selected topics and contemporary developments in the areas of elementary and/or secondary education. The content will vary from year to year and will be announced prior to registration.
This course is not Team taught or offered online.

Term:
Winter 2027

Credits:
3 credits

Monday & Wednesday, 10:05 am-11:25 am

Teaching Qualification Requirements (TQRs)

Education:

  1. Graduate degree in Education or a related field. PhD preferred.
  2. Academic and/or professional background relevant to the announced special topic (see Other information).

Experience:

  1. Experience teaching and/or facilitating learning in educational or related professional contexts.
  2. Experience designing and facilitating engaging, discussion-based, experiential, and/or inquiry-oriented learning.
  3. Experience supporting learners in connecting educational concepts and scholarship to personal, professional, and/or educational contexts.

Other:

  1. Knowledge of the impact and experience integrating pedagogical approaches anchored to equity, diversity and inclusion
  2. Familiarity using myCourses, Zoom and/or other similar online platforms to facilitate quality teaching and learning experiences
  3. Familiarity with the application of a variety of digital teaching and learning tools
  4. Familiarity teaching blended classes
  5. Instruction in this course may be delivered remotely if indicated as required by the university.

Qualifications related to the special topic, Happiness in Education:

  1. Teaching, research, and/or professional experience related to happiness, well-being, positive psychology, human flourishing, or related areas.
  2. Demonstrated knowledge of:
    • Research and theoretical perspectives related to happiness, well-being, positive psychology, and human flourishing, or related areas.
    • Applications of research on happiness and well-being to educational contexts.
    • Relationships among individual well-being, social relationships, empathy, meaning, and learning.
    • Research-informed approaches and practices that support well-being and positive development.
    • Experience facilitating experiential learning and reflective activities related to personal and/or professional development.
    • Experience translating research and theory related to happiness and well-being into accessible and applied learning experiences.
