Course Description: Social Studies Pedagogy

Subject Code: EDEE 283 003

Department: Department of Integrated Studies in Education (DISE)

Description: Programs, materials and strategies for social studies from Kindergarten through grade six. This course is not Team Taught or offered online.

Term: Winter 2027

Course Credits: 3

Location: Education Building (EDUC 613)

Schedule: Friday, 11:35 am-02:25 pm

Appointment Dates: December 21, 2026 - April 30, 2027

Teaching Qualification Requirements

Education

  1. Master educator with an MA (i.e., social studies education, social studies teaching and learning) and/or extensive relevant experience as a school educator/teacher/pedagogue
  2. PhD or equivalent in a relevant field is an asset

Experience

  1. Experience as a master k/elementary teacher/instructor with knowledge of:
    • Quebec’s educational program
    • Quebec’s social studies program at the elementary school level
    • The teaching and learning of social studies (history, geography, and citizenship education)
    • Elementary teaching and learning theory/methodologies
    • Sound instructional techniques

  1. Previous successful experience teaching similar course(s) at the undergraduate level
  2. Experience as a master teacher/instructor in the Quebec educational system is an asset
  3. Knowledge of the impact and proven record integrating pedagogical approaches anchored to equity, diversity and inclusion
  4. Familiarity using myCourses, ZOOM and other similar online platforms to facilitate quality teaching and learning experiences
  5. Familiarity teaching blended classes is an asset
  6. Familiarity with the application of a variety of digital teaching and learning tools
