EDSL 412. Assessment in TESL.
Description:
This course deals with the role of assessment in TESL. Students will explore the kinds of information needed to make educational decisions in second language courses, different techniques for collecting that information, and ways for interpreting it. Principles and methods for assessment with and without tests are discussed and practiced.

Teaching Qualification Requirements (TRQs)
Education:
- Master’s degree in Second Language Education or related area (in exceptional circumstances applicants without a Master’s degree but with significant research or professional experience related to the course content may be considered).
- Teaching degree or equivalent in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL).
- PhD or equivalent in a relevant field is an asset.
Experience:
- Expert knowledge of course content as represented in current eCalendar description, including: assessment principles and methods in Teaching English as a Second Language, formative and summative assessment practices.
- Experience teaching ESL in the Quebec elementary/secondary French school system.
- Knowledge of the Quebec Education program (QEP) specific to ESL programs.
- Familiarity with the 13 professional competencies specified by the Ministère de l’Éducation.
- Previous successful experience teaching similar course(s) to pre-service teachers.

- Commitment to working with a team of committed and engaged instructors.
- Must be available to attend course coordination and planning meeting minimum of 2 weeks in advance of course start date.
- Knowledge of the impact and proven record integrating pedagogical approaches anchored to equity, diversity and inclusion.
- Familiarity using myCourses, ZOOM and other similar online platforms to facilitate quality teaching and learning experiences.
- Familiarity teaching blended classes is an asset.
- Familiarity with the application of a variety of digital teaching and learning tools.
