EDTL 626. Advanced Applied Methods in Teaching Science in Secondary School.
Description
Organization of learning experiences in ways that support students in developing science process skills and understanding the unifying themes, issues of equity, and the nature of science. Mobilization of digital technologies and relevant Quebec Ministry of Education professional competencies for teachers are addressed and assessed throughout. This course is not team taught or offered online.

Teaching Qualification Requirements (TQRs)
Education
- Master educator with a minimum completed master’s degree in a relevant field. PhD preferred.
- Strong grounding in science education theory, curriculum, and pedagogy at the secondary level.
Experience
- School-based science teaching experience in secondary schools, preferably in Quebec.
- Experience supporting teacher candidates in teacher education and/or science methods course contexts.
- Demonstrated knowledge of:
- The Québec Education Program (QEP), including competencies, progression of learning, and curriculum expectations relevant to secondary science.
- Advanced pedagogical approaches for teaching science that support science process skills, conceptual understanding, inquiry, and the development of scientific thinking.
- Unifying themes and foundational concepts in science education, including the nature of science.
- Equity-oriented and inclusive approaches in science education.
- Practice-based pedagogies, including rehearsal-based approaches to supporting the development of teaching practice.
- Planning, instructional, and assessment practices relevant to secondary science teaching.
- Integration of digital technologies in science teaching and learning.
- Professional competency frameworks and professional repository documentation relevant to teacher education.
- Experience supporting teacher candidates in planning, rehearsing, implementing, and reflecting on science teaching practices.
- Previous experience teaching these themes within other university-level courses may be considered equivalent to having taught the specific course.
