Teaching Qualification Requirements (TQRs):

Education:

  1. Master educator with a minimum completed master’s degree in a relevant field. PhD preferred.
  2. Strong grounding in citizenship education, social studies education theory, curriculum, and pedagogical approaches relevant to the Quebec secondary education context.

Experience:

  1. School-based teaching experience in secondary social studies disciplines, including geography, preferably in Quebec.
  2. Experience supporting teacher candidates in teacher education and/or social science methods course contexts.
  3. Demonstrated knowledge of:
    • The Québec Education Program (QEP), including competencies and curriculum expectations relevant to secondary social studies disciplines, including geography and related programs.
    • Educational theories and current research relevant to social studies education.
    • Advanced pedagogical approaches for teaching social studies, including inquiry, interpretation, critical analysis, and disciplinary thinking.
    • The nature, content, and methodology of teaching social studies subjects in secondary school contexts, including a focus on geography in the secondary curriculum.
    • Planning, instructional, and assessment practices relevant to secondary social studies teaching.
    • Equity-oriented, inclusive, and critically informed approaches in social studies education.
    • Integration of digital technologies in social studies teaching and learning.
    • Professional competency frameworks and professional repository documentation relevant to teacher education.
  4. Previous experience teaching these themes within other university-level courses may be considered equivalent to having taught the specific course.
