Background

The Course Officer is a student-facing role within the School, providing a responsive and professional first point of contact for students and other stakeholders across allocated courses. The role supports the effective delivery of course administration throughout the student lifecycle, ensuring processes are coordinated accurately, efficiently and in accordance with University regulations and policies. Working closely with academic, professional services and central teams, the Course Officer contributes to a positive student experience, maintains accurate records and supports the smooth operation of courses.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates day-to-day course administration, including registration, induction, module selection, timetabling, attendance, assessment, progression and student feedback
  • Responds to student and stakeholder enquiries, providing clear advice on processes such as extensions, interruptions and appeals, and escalating complex matters appropriately
  • Maintains accurate student records and documentation
  • Supports examinations, Assessment Boards and graduation
  • Ensures deadlines and regulatory requirements are met
  • Builds effective relationships across the School and University
  • Provides team cover during peak periods
  • Supports appropriate financial controls

Person Specification

  • Experience of providing high-quality administrative or student-facing services, ideally within a higher education environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organisation and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines
  • Knowledge of student administration, academic regulations and the student lifecycle would be advantageous
  • Confident using IT systems and maintaining accurate records
  • Ability to interpret procedures, resolve routine problems, exercise sound judgement, protect confidential information and work collaboratively with diverse colleagues and stakeholders
