Court of Protection Paralegal – Manchester
We are looking for a talented and experienced Court of Protection Paralegal to join our team of highly experienced Lawyers based in our Manchester Office. The successful candidate will offer assistance to the Deputy and Head of the Court of Protection / Private Client team with their high valued cases, whilst being able to gain some valuable experience in a well-established, long-standing firm.
Duties
- Managing new enquiries
- Assisting a Partner on Court of Protection matters, in particular management of affairs of people who lack capacity to do so for themselves
- Drafting and dealing with routine correspondence
- Drafting Court documents
- Liaising with family members, care homes, case managers and financial advisors
- Assisting with financial budgets and maintaining clear records of all income and expenditure of a vulnerable person
- Diary Management
- Use of in-house case management system
- Research using internal resources
- Keeping clients updated in a clear and empathetic manner
- Ensuring that client’s rehabilitation and financial needs are at all times being considered and met on an ongoing basis
- Working to court and procedural deadlines
- Assisting with file organisation and preparation of files for costing
- Preparation of deputyship accounts for sign off on a quarterly basis in accordance with the SRA rules
- Maintaining awareness of the Mental Capacity Act 2005, the Mental Capacity Code of Practice and Court of Protection Rules
- Maintaining awareness and acting in accordance with the Deputy Standards

Essential skills
- Previous experience of working in Court of Protection department
- Experience within an office environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent people skills and able to build a good rapport with vulnerable clients and third parties
- Proven ability to work to deadlines
- IT Skills such as Word/ Outlook/ Excel
