Role Description

The Cover Cleaning Operative role is a part-time, on-site position based in Colchester, providing cover cleaning services across designated client premises. Day-to-day tasks include carrying out general cleaning duties such as dusting, vacuuming, mopping, washroom cleaning, waste removal, and ensuring that all areas meet agreed hygiene and presentation standards. The role involves following site-specific cleaning schedules, using appropriate cleaning products and equipment safely, and adhering to health, safety, and environmental procedures. The Cover Cleaning Operative may be required to work flexible hours to cover staff absence, holidays, or busy periods, and will maintain professional communication with supervisors, colleagues, and clients as needed. Reliability, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while also contributing to a team-oriented environment are essential.

  • Strong practical cleaning skills, including experience with general commercial cleaning tasks and use of basic cleaning equipment and products.
  • Good awareness of health and safety practices, including safe chemical handling, equipment use, and adherence to company procedures.
  • Ability to follow instructions, work to cleaning schedules, and maintain consistent standards with minimal supervision.
  • Effective communication skills to interact professionally with supervisors, colleagues, and clients when required.
  • High level of reliability, punctuality, and personal integrity, with a positive and respectful approach in diverse workplaces.
  • Physical ability to perform manual tasks such as bending, lifting, and standing for extended periods.
  • Previous experience in commercial or contract cleaning environments is beneficial but not essential.
  • Flexibility to work varying shifts within Colchester and, where needed, nearby locations in line with business requirements.
