Cover Supervisor Opportunity at Lift Maltings
Are you confident, adaptable, and able to build positive relationships with young people? We are looking for a Cover Supervisor to join Lift Maltings and help maintain high-quality learning when teachers are absent.
About The Role
As a Cover Supervisor, you will provide essential classroom cover during planned and unplanned teacher absence. You will deliver pre-prepared lesson materials across a range of subjects, explain tasks clearly, and ensure students remain focused, complete their work, and behave appropriately.
You will help create a calm and orderly learning environment, support students who need additional help, including those with SEND, complete attendance registers, and provide feedback to teaching and pastoral colleagues. You may also support student supervision during breaks, lunchtimes, and other wider academy activities when required.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise lessons in the absence of the class teacher and deliver pre-prepared lesson materials
- Maintain a positive, calm, and orderly classroom, applying the academy behaviour policy consistently
- Support students to understand and complete assigned work, including providing appropriate support to students with SEND
- Complete attendance registers, collect completed work, and provide clear feedback to the class teacher
- Liaise with teaching, SEND, and pastoral colleagues where student support or welfare issues arise
- Support wider academy duties, including student supervision during breaks, lunchtimes, and other activities when required

What We're Looking For
- GCSE Maths and English at Grade 4 or equivalent, together with A levels or an equivalent Level 3 qualification
- Experience of working with children and young people and the confidence to supervise whole classes
- Knowledge of effective behaviour management strategies and the ability to remain calm, patient, and resilient
- Clear and effective communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students and colleagues
- Adaptability and flexibility to work across different subjects, age groups, and changing daily priorities
- Strong teamwork, organisation, and the ability to plan and prioritise your workload while maintaining confidentiality
- A commitment to safeguarding, equality, and inclusion; experience in education, a degree, or PGCE, Google Workspace, and Arbor knowledge are desirable
About Lift Maltings
Lift Maltings is an 11–16 school based in Witham, Essex. Situated between the cities of Chelmsford and Colchester, the school has 900 students on roll and benefits from a modern, purpose-built site opened in 2011. With excellent transport links to London, our staff and students can take full advantage of the wealth of opportunities the capital provides. Free car parking facilities are available on site.
