The Role

Based in the Barnsley area, this permanent Cover Supervisor position is a vital pillar in the daily operations of a thriving secondary academy. The successful candidate will be responsible for the supervision of pupil learning, ensuring that students remain on task and engaged with pre:set work. Beyond simple supervision, the role involves upholding high standards of behaviour, assisting students with academic queries, and providing essential departmental support. It is a dynamic position suited for an ICT:literate individual who thrives on variety and is dedicated to fostering an inclusive learning environment.

Requirements

  • GCSE Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
  • Prior experience working within a school or team environment.

Essential Skills

Responsibilities

  • Supervise Learning: Deliver pre:set cover work in accordance with academy policy and the supportive learning framework.
  • Manage Behaviour: Establish and maintain a positive, purposeful classroom environment.
  • Academic Support: Respond to student questions and assist them in completing set activities.
  • Promote Inclusion: Ensure all pupils feel accepted and included within the classroom setting.
  • Feedback Delivery: Provide pupils with constructive feedback regarding their progress and achievements.
  • Incident Management: Handle any classroom problems or emergencies according to strict school protocols.
  • Resource Coordination: Collect all completed work and ensure it is returned to the appropriate department.
  • Reporting: Provide accurate reports to teachers regarding pupil achievement and classroom dynamics.
  • Reward Success: Recognise and celebrate pupil achievements in line with the academys rewards policy.
  • Collaborative Working: Liaise with Teaching Assistants to support students with additional needs during lessons.
