Part-time Cover Supervisor

Salary: NJC Scale F - H (£23,354.96 - £29,942.20 pa pro rata) term time only - 38 weeks

Hours: up to 30 per week – to be discussed at interview

Contract type: fixed term for one year

This is an opportunity to work in a small junior school to take on a Cover Supervisor role, providing classroom cover when there are teacher absences and working as a Teaching Assistant level 2 at other times.

Demonstrating an informed and efficient approach to classroom management, teaching and learning, you will be confident and pro-active in supervising a whole class to set activities and undertake their work, supporting the work of teachers and utilising existing classroom planning as required. Maintaining good order and keeping pupils on task, you will deal with any immediate classroom challenges and report back to the teacher, ensuring all work is collected and marked as appropriate.

You will have a good understanding of school inclusion strategies, ensuring that you recognise and support pupils’ individual needs so that all of our children can achieve their best. You will take an active role in directing learning to help our pupils to experience a sense of achievement, building their self esteem and promoting independence and social inclusion. With knowledge and experience of working with children who have SEND and SEMH needs, you will understand how to support learners in accessing the curriculum, and will be able to adapt tasks and environments for these pupils as necessary.

With a good understanding of roles and responsibilities in the classroom, your considerable experience of working in a Teaching Assistant role in a primary setting will help you to lead by example, directing and guiding other adults supporting teaching and learning in the classroom as required.

Ideally with experience of working at least at Teaching Assistant 3 level you may also have a HLTA qualification (or an NVQ 3/NVQ 4 or equivalent) and will have considerable experience of working to support children’s learning.
