Cover Supervisor - SEN School
Location: Crumpsall, Greater Manchester
Contract: Temporary (Long-term)
Full Time: Monday to Friday, 8:00am - 4:00pm
Pay: From £110 per day
Start Date: September 2026
Expected End Date: July 2027 (end of the academic year)
Cover Supervisor - Crumpsall
A specialist SEN school in Crumpsall is seeking a confident, adaptable and dedicated Cover Supervisor to join their team from September. This is a full-time, long-term opportunity supporting children and young people with a range of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN), and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
The successful candidate will supervise classes during teacher absences, ensuring pupils remain engaged in learning while maintaining a calm, safe and supportive classroom environment. Working closely with teachers, SENCOs and the wider multidisciplinary team, you will help promote positive behaviour, support pupils' individual learning needs and contribute to the school's inclusive ethos.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervising whole classes during planned and unplanned teacher absences.
- Delivering pre-prepared lessons and ensuring pupils remain engaged with learning activities.
- Supporting pupils with a range of special educational needs to access the curriculum.
- Promoting positive behaviour and supporting pupils with emotional regulation using agreed strategies.
- Providing 1:1 and small group support where required.
- Working closely with teaching staff to maintain continuity of learning.
- Monitoring pupil engagement, progress and wellbeing throughout lessons.
- Following EHCPs, behaviour support plans and individual learning programmes.
- Maintaining a safe, inclusive and positive learning environment.
- Communicating effectively with teachers, support staff and senior leaders regarding pupil progress and behaviour.

The Successful Applicant Will
- Have previous experience working with children or young people within an educational, youth work, care or SEN setting.
- Be confident managing groups of pupils and maintaining positive behaviour.
- Be calm, resilient and adaptable, with a positive and proactive approach.
- Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Be able to build positive relationships with pupils, staff and families.
- Have an understanding of supporting pupils with additional needs and barriers to learning.
- Have the right to work in the UK and be available to work full time.

Desirable
- Previous experience as a Cover Supervisor, Teaching Assistant or Learning Support Assistant.
- Experience working within a specialist SEN school.
- Knowledge of Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), SEMH, learning difficulties or complex needs.
- Team Teach, MAPA or similar behaviour management/de-escalation training.
- Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning, Education, Childcare or a related field.

This role is subject to an Enhanced DBS covering both the Child and Adult Workforce, satisfactory references, and full compliance with Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) 2025 guidance and safer recruitment standards. Overseas police checks may be required where applicable.
