Cover Supervisor - Secondary School
Location: Tower Hamlets, East London
Pay: £120 - £140 per day
Contract Type: Full-time | Temporary to Permanent
Start Date: ASAP
Commutable from: Bow, Mile End, Bethnal Green, Whitechapel, Stepney Green, Poplar, Canary Wharf, Stratford, Limehouse, Hackney and surrounding areas.
Long Term Futures is seeking a confident and enthusiastic Cover Supervisor to join a well-established secondary school in Tower Hamlets. This full-time opportunity is ideal for someone looking to gain valuable classroom experience or take the next step towards a career in teaching.
As a Cover Supervisor, you will oversee lessons in the absence of teaching staff, ensuring students remain engaged with the work provided while maintaining a positive and productive learning environment. You will work closely with teaching and pastoral teams to support students across a range of subjects and year groups.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise whole classes during the absence of teaching staff.
- Deliver pre-planned lessons and ensure students remain focused on learning activities.
- Maintain high standards of behaviour in line with the school's behaviour policy.
- Support students to complete classwork and answer general questions where appropriate.
- Manage classroom routines effectively to create a calm and purposeful learning environment.
- Provide feedback to teaching staff regarding student engagement, behaviour and lesson outcomes.
- Build positive relationships with students across Key Stages 3 and 4.
- Support the wider school community through break, lunch or intervention duties where required.
- Encourage positive attitudes towards learning and promote high expectations.
- Uphold safeguarding procedures and contribute to the wellbeing of all students.

Essential Candidate Requirements
- Previous experience working with young people in a school, tuition, coaching, mentoring or youth work setting.
- Confident managing groups of secondary-aged students.
- Excellent communication and classroom management skills.
- Ability to remain calm, professional and adaptable in a busy school environment.
- A proactive and organised approach to supporting learning.
- A genuine interest in education and helping young people succeed.
- Graduates considering a future career in teaching are encouraged to apply.
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
