What the role does not involve

This is not a people-management or department-head position. You will not be expected to act as Astoria’s final technical authority or independently determine the company’s position on every complex regulatory issue.

Routine administration and document collection are handled by the wider delivery team, allowing you to concentrate on technical review, client guidance and interview preparation.

Essential experience and skills

• Substantial experience within an adult social care or regulated health and care environment and / or the CQC.
• Previous experience as a Registered Manager, Deputy Manager, Quality or Compliance Manager, Operations Manager, care consultant or in a comparable role.
• A strong working understanding of CQC regulations, fundamental standards and the registration process.
• Experience preparing, reviewing or working with policies, procedures, care documentation or regulatory evidence.
• Excellent written English and close attention to detail.
• Confidence conducting professional client meetings and explaining complex requirements clearly.
• Sound judgement and the ability to distinguish routine matters from issues requiring escalation.
• Strong organisation and the ability to manage multiple clients and deadlines.
• Comfortable receiving feedback and working within established quality-assurance processes.
• Able to work reliably and independently in a fully remote environment.
• A suitable home-working environment with reliable internet access and appropriate contingency arrangements.

Desirable experience

• Direct involvement in one or more successful CQC registration applications.
• Experience supporting domiciliary care or supported-living services.
• Experience preparing Registered Managers or Nominated Individuals for CQC interviews.
• Knowledge of registration variations, returned applications or Notices of Proposal.
• Experience reviewing Statements of Purpose and regulatory policies.
• Relevant health, social care, management or compliance qualification.
• Previous employment by the CQC is not required.

You will be knowledgeable without being overconfident, meticulous without losing sight of deadlines and confident enough to advise clients while recognising when something needs senior input.

You must be dependable, responsive and comfortable being accountable for your workload. Because we work remotely and handle time-sensitive applications, clear communication about progress, availability, delays and emerging issues is an essential part of the role.

We are particularly interested in someone who:

Initial expectations

You will receive structured guidance in Astoria’s processes, templates and quality standards.

Your work will initially be reviewed before being issued to clients. As your knowledge of our approach develops, you will be expected to take increasing ownership of routine reviews, client communications and interview-preparation sessions.

We would ordinarily expect the successful candidate to:

• Understand Astoria’s principal services and processes during the first month.
• Manage routine reviews and interview preparation with limited support within four to six weeks.
• Produce consistently accurate work and manage an agreed client workload by the end of probation.
• Escalate complex or unfamiliar matters appropriately throughout.

Probation

The role is subject to a three-month probationary period.

Performance during probation will be assessed against:

• Quality and accuracy of work.
• Ability to apply feedback.
• Management of workload and deadlines.
• Reliability and attendance.
• Punctuality for client and internal meetings.
• Communication and responsiveness.
• Appropriate ownership and escalation of issues.
• Professional conduct with clients and colleagues.
