An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Infrastructure Programme as a Mechanical Craft Technician, supporting the safe, reliable and effective maintenance of essential plant, systems and equipment.
Based within the Engineering Maintenance Team in D1313, you’ll become an integral part of the mechanical team, working across maintenance and project activities to the highest regulatory and professional standards. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced mechanical professional who enjoys solving problems, taking ownership and contributing to the continuous improvement of engineering operations.
What You'll Do
- Working as part of our experienced maintenance team, you’ll carry out planned and reactive maintenance, investigate faults and defects, and help ensure plant and equipment remain safe, reliable and fit for purpose.
- You’ll use your technical knowledge to identify practical solutions, support improvements and provide accurate information that helps inform future maintenance activities.
- Deliver high-quality maintenance and fault diagnosis, identifying and rectifying defects across mechanical plant, systems and components while maintaining a strong focus on safety, programme and resources.
- Drive continuous improvement by reviewing maintenance procedures, identifying equipment performance, obsolescence and end-of-life issues, and recommending practical improvements to processes, working practices and equipment utilisation.
- Provide professional technical support, liaising with suppliers and manufacturers, producing clear and accurate job reports, condition assessments and maintenance recommendations.
- Promote safe and effective working, including the handover and control of plant and equipment, undertaking relevant authorised responsibilities and supporting apprentice development, which may include acting as an SVQ Assessor.

What You'll Bring
- We’re looking for a practical, motivated and safety-conscious mechanical professional who takes pride in delivering work to a high standard.
- You’ll be confident using your technical knowledge to solve problems, comfortable working independently when required and equally at home collaborating with colleagues across the wider team.
- Mechanical apprenticeship with an HNC in Engineering, or equivalent qualifications and relevant practical experience.
- Strong mechanical fault-finding and problem-solving capability, together with demonstrable knowledge of plumbing practices.
- A proactive and self-motivated approach, with the confidence to use your own initiative, take ownership and contribute effectively as part of a team.
- Excellent communication and good IT skills, together with the ability to meet the requirements of the role’s Post specific physical capability analysis
