About The Role

Based at a steel manufacturing and engineering facility in Cradley, this full-time Crane Operator position offers £14.50 per hour on a temp-to-perm basis. The successful candidate will handle steel and heavy materials, operating both an overhead crane and a forklift safely. Working hours rotate weekly: 6.00am–2.00pm Monday to Friday, or 1.30pm–10.00pm Monday to Thursday with a 2.00pm–8.00pm Friday shift. Duties include moving and loading materials, conducting safety checks, and supporting production. Previous experience with overhead cranes, forklifts, and steel handling is essential. Strong awareness of health and safety plus good communication skills are required.

The Role

As a Forklift Driver / Overhead Crane Operator, you will be responsible for the safe movement, loading and unloading of steel, raw materials and finished products around the site.

Duties Will Include

  • Operating a counterbalance forklift safely and efficiently
  • Operating an overhead crane to lift, move and position steel and heavy materials
  • Loading and unloading steel, sheet metal and other heavy materials
  • Moving raw materials and finished products around the factory
  • Loading and unloading delivery vehicles
  • Supplying production areas with steel and materials as required
  • Storing steel and materials safely within designated areas
  • Using lifting equipment and attachments safely
  • Carrying out daily forklift and lifting equipment checks
  • Working closely with production and manufacturing teams
  • Completing relevant paperwork and stock movements
  • Maintaining a clean and safe working environment
  • Following all Health & Safety procedures and company policies

The Ideal Candidate

The Successful Candidate Will Ideally Have

  • Previous experience as a Forklift Driver, FLT Driver, Counterbalance Driver or Materials Handler
  • A valid Counterbalance Forklift Licence
  • Previous experience operating an overhead crane
  • Experience handling steel, sheet metal or other heavy materials
  • Previous experience within a steel, manufacturing, engineering, fabrication or industrial environment
  • Confident operating forklifts around heavy and oversized materials
  • Experience loading and unloading steel and other industrial products
  • Good understanding of safe lifting and material handling procedures
  • Strong awareness of workplace Health & Safety
  • Reliable, punctual and hardworking attitude
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a busy team
