Experienced Mobile Crane Operator

Company: Sherrington Lifting Services

Location: Widnes Depot

Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent

Pay: Highly Competitive Hourly Rate + Overtime & Allowances (Negotiable based on experience/tonnage)

We deliver expert CPA crane hire and contract lifting solutions across a wide range of commercial, industrial, infrastructure, and event projects.

Due to continued growth and expansion across our fleet, we are seeking a skilled and safety-driven Experienced Mobile Crane Operator to join our dedicated team.


The Role

As a key member of our operations, you will be responsible for driving, setting up, and safely operating mobile telescopic cranes across diverse and challenging sites. You will work closely with our Appointed Persons, Crane Supervisors, and Slingers to ensure all lifting operations are carried out smoothly and to the highest standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safe operation of all-terrain mobile cranes in line with lift plans, RAMS, and manufacturer load charts.
  • Strict adherence to statutory regulations, including BS 7121, LOLER 1998, and PUWER 1998.
  • Driving mobile cranes to and from client sites in compliance with UK road traffic regulations.
  • Carrying out proper site assessments for setup, including outrigger deployment, ground pressure awareness, and matting placement.
  • Rigging, de-rigging, counterweight handling, and fly-jib setup where required.
  • Performing daily pre-use mechanical, hydraulic, and safety checks; keeping clean, accurate defect logs and maintenance records.
  • Maintaining professional, proactive communication with clients and site teams.

Key Requirements

  • CPCS Card (Blue Competent Operator) for Mobile Crane (All Duties / A60 or equivalent).
  • Valid UK HGV Class 2 (Category C) or Class 1 (Category C+E) driving licence.
  • Valid Driver CPC (DQC) and Digital Tachograph Card.
  • Proven track record operating modern telescopic/all-terrain mobile cranes.
  • Solid understanding of site safety, ground conditions, wind limitations, and rigging accessories.
  • Strong work ethic, reliable timekeeping, and flexibility with early starts and weekend overtime.
  • Additional CPCS tickets (e.g., Slinger/Signaller, Crane Supervisor) are an advantage.
