THE BUSINESS

Our client is seeking an experienced and driven Crane Service Manager to lead their Service Engineering Division based at their Teesside branch.

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly organised and customer-focused professional to take responsibility for the day-to-day management of service operations, ensuring the highest standards of customer service, engineering excellence, safety, and commercial performance.

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in managing service engineers, coordinating maintenance activities, responding to customer breakdowns, controlling costs, and driving operational efficiency across the division.

Most of the works is on factory cranes & overhead cranes, however they do work on dock and harbour cranes, as well as vessel cranes ranging from 1tonne to 3000tonne. Candidates will be favoured who show an interest/experience working with AI, have a willingness to grow, managing multi-site workers and planning & scheduling works.

  • Plan, organise and coordinate the daily activities of the Service Engineering Division.
  • Manage engineer workloads and ensure efficient deployment of resources.
  • Schedule and oversee maintenance, inspection and repair activities.
  • Ensure rapid and effective response to customer breakdowns and emergency call-outs.
  • Monitor operational performance and continuously improve service delivery.

Customer Management

  • Act as the primary point of contact for service customers.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships through professional communication and service excellence.
  • Provide technical support and practical solutions to customer requirements.
  • Respond promptly to customer enquiries and service issues.

Commercial & Financial Control

  • Prepare service quotations, estimates and costings.
  • Manage departmental budgets and financial performance.
  • Monitor labour utilisation and operational efficiencies.
  • Control costs and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Oversee invoicing processes and ensure accurate and timely billing.

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Promote a strong safety culture throughout the division.
  • Ensure compliance with all current health, safety and industry regulations.
  • Develop and review Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS).
  • Implement and maintain safe systems of work.
  • Ensure engineering activities are carried out in accordance with company procedures and statutory requirements.

Engineering Administration

  • Create and manage job cards and service documentation.
  • Maintain accurate service records and compliance documentation.
  • Coordinate maintenance schedules for customer equipment.
  • Oversee the maintenance and upkeep of company vehicles, lifting equipment and tools used by the division.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within service operations.

THE PERSON

  • Previous experience in a Service Manager, Engineering Manager, Crane Manager, Plant Manager or similar role.
  • Electrical/Mechanical HNC or equivalent
  • Strong knowledge of cranes, lifting equipment, industrial maintenance, or related engineering services.
  • Excellent planning, organisational and leadership skills.
  • Experience in budgeting, cost control and financial management.
  • A strong customer-service mindset with excellent communication skills.
  • Knowledge of health and safety legislation and industry best practice.
  • Experience preparing RAMS and implementing safe systems of work.
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Competency in service management software and Microsoft Office applications.
