CONTRACT TYPE: Twelve-month Fixed-term Contract
DEPARTMENT: BBC Commercial, Rights and Business Affairs (CRBA)
LOCATION: Potential to be based in London; Salford or Glasgow – Hybrid working with an average of 2-3 days per week in a BBC building.
PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £32,000-£44,000pa (plus London Weighting (£5,441pa) if London based), depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The Commercial, Rights and Business Affairs Executive will support the BBC’s CRBA Commissioning team in delivering programming across all platforms by securing rights, managing risks, and negotiating contracts. Working within a designated CRBA area, you will contribute to the commissioning and acquisition of content while occasionally supporting other CRBA teams to broaden expertise.
Specifically, the role is currently based in unscripted working on genres such as documentaries, specialist factual, arts, music or entertainment. We work with independent production companies to agree programme funding and contract with them to deliver a range of programming across those areas for BBC channels, iPlayer and BBC YouTube channels. We support the BBC Commissioning teams to realise creative ambition and deliver value for our audiences – problem solving along the way.

CRBA oversees the BBC’s intellectual property, strategic and business interests through negotiation, contracting and commercial deal-making. It comprises teams embedded across Content (Television, Radio & Music, Children’s & Education, Sport), News, Technology & Product, as well as a central CRBA unit. These teams support commissioning, production and distribution of BBC services and content, working closely with Finance, HR, Legal, Editorial Policy and Strategy.

The CRBA Commissioning team is a multi-disciplinary group responsible for deal-making, contract management and risk oversight in the commissioning and acquisition of programmes for BBC channels, iPlayer, Sounds and YouTube.
All CRBA colleagues are ‘agile workers’ and our expectation is that they will work an average of 2-3 days per week in BBC buildings.
You will be working in the heart of the BBC with multiple internal stakeholders and key suppliers helping the BBC to deliver to audiences at a time of great change in the industry at a time the purpose and value of the BBC to the public is under the spotlight with Charter renewal. Your Key Responsibilities And Impact
As a CRBA Executive, you will:
- Draft and negotiate a wide range of contracts
- Work with diverse counterparties on complex issues
- Liaise directly with BBC commissioners
- Collaborate with a broad spectrum of producers
- Engage with other key stakeholders to ensure successful agreements
Your Skills And Experience
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
- A good understanding of rights and the aptitude to grasp and manage complex issues, finding solutions in a timebound context
- Strong negotiation and drafting skills and experience in the world of television or streaming production, broadcast or distribution.
- Proficient at proactively managing a heavy workload to tight deadlines, balancing stakeholder demands, and assessing/escalating risks when appropriate
- Excellent communication skills for managing internal and external stakeholders, including key suppliers
- Highly motivated to drive forward deals independently as well as collaboratively, working effectively as part of a team
Desirable
- Comfortable using online tools and databases to accurately record deal progress in a timely manner
- Understanding of the importance of relevant approvals within the deal-making process, with the aptitude to efficiently incorporate them into workflow
