What You'll Be Doing
We're looking for an experienced Contractor's Responsible Engineer (Construction) - Track (CRE-C) to join our project delivery team at Holbeck Depot. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced rail engineering professional to provide technical leadership, engineering assurance and construction support across critical rail infrastructure projects.
Reporting to the Senior Construction Manager, you'll act as the nominated engineering lead for Track construction activities, ensuring work is delivered safely, compliantly and in accordance with approved designs, standards and engineering requirements.
- Act as the nominated Track CRE-C for allocated projects and work packages.
- Provide engineering assurance throughout the construction phase of Track works.
- Ensure construction teams have access to approved drawings, specifications and technical information before works commence.
- Provide technical guidance and support to site teams and subcontractors.
- Identify and manage engineering risks, constraints and technical interfaces.
- Review construction methodologies, sequencing and technical solutions for buildability and compliance.
- Liaise with Design CREs, Construction Engineering Managers (CEMs), project teams and client representatives to resolve engineering issues.
- Manage technical queries, requests for information and site engineering issues.
- Support design reviews, constructability reviews and interdisciplinary engineering coordination.
- Review Work Package Plans, Inspection and Test Plans, risk assessments and method statements.
- Support possession planning, isolation planning and critical project activities.
- Attend site during key construction and commissioning activities.
- Ensure works are delivered in accordance with approved designs, standards and construction methodologies.
- Define and manage engineering inspections, hold points and acceptance criteria.
- Review testing, commissioning and quality documentation to verify compliance.
- Support handback activities, ensuring project records and engineering documentation are complete and accurate.
- Promote a strong safety culture and support compliance with Network Rail standards, CDM requirements and company procedures.
- Support incident investigations, lessons learned and continuous improvement initiatives.

What We're Looking For
- HNC, HND, degree or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Demonstrable experience delivering Track (Permanent Way) projects within a rail infrastructure environment.
- Experience operating as a CRE-C or suitability for appointment under Project Engineering Management arrangements.
- Strong understanding of Network Rail engineering assurance requirements and construction standards.
- Experience reviewing construction methodologies, technical queries, testing records and handover documentation.
- Knowledge of CDM Regulations, Work Package Plans and Safe Systems of Work.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary project teams.
- PTS certification where required by the project.
- Appropriate CSCS card.
- Full UK Driving Licence.

Desirable
- Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status, or working towards professional registration.
- Previous formal CRE-C appointment on Network Rail projects.
- SMSTS or SSSTS certification.
- Temporary Works awareness or Temporary Works Coordinator qualification.
- Experience supporting possession planning, commissioning and project close-out activities.
