Creative Director / Lead Game Designer
Wetals Studio · Remote/Hybrid · Full-time
About Wetals Studio
Wetals Studio is a new independent game studio, based in the UK, building a category-defining game around the most-read book in history: the Bible.
Our thesis is simple.
The faith audience is massive and loyal, and it has never been served real game craft; the incumbents are ad-farms running reskinned trivia templates.
We are building the Duolingo / Monument Valley of Scripture: beautiful, habit-forming, respectful.
Craft is our moat.
We design for awe, not addiction: no dark patterns, no gacha, no ads, ever.
We are assembling a small senior founding team of five, and this is hire number one.
About the role
You are the design authority the rest of the studio builds from.
You own the vision for a collection-driven living-world game built on the Bible's own structure, and you turn that vision into a design bible the other four founding hires execute against.
The founder acts as producer and product owner; you own what the game is.
This is greenfield IP with a blank page and a high bar: the craft standard of top-grossing casual studios, applied to material nobody has served properly.
What you'll own
- The core vision and the game's interlocking loops: a daily ritual, story-driven sessions, a collection meta, small-group co-op, and seasonal events.
- The novelty engine: how a small set of deeply polished mechanics recombines so the game feels fresh for years.
- Chapter and level design, including difficulty rhythm and pacing across a long campaign.
- The game economy, designed for trust and long-term retention rather than extraction.
- The design bible: you write it, maintain it, and defend it.
- Design direction for the other four founding hires (engineering, art, content, technical art).

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
What we're looking for
- 5+ years in game design, including 2+ in a lead or principal role.
- You have shipped at least one casual game and can tell us exactly what you did on it.
- You can point to retention metrics (D1/D7/D30) you personally moved, and explain the design decisions behind the movement.
- Hands-on economy design on a live game: sources, sinks, progression pacing, and the numbers to show for it.
- Fluency in the modern casual retention playbook (story cadence, collections, co-op, live events) and sharp judgment about which patterns are craft and which are manipulation.
- Deep familiarity with the Bible as text, story, and cultural artifact, and genuine respect for the audience that loves it. We do not require any personal faith or church affiliation; we require that you know this material and this audience deeply.
- Clear design writing; your documents will be the studio's source of truth.

You'll thrive here if you...
- Prefer a small senior team with high trust over layers of process.
- Believe restraint is a design skill: fewer mechanics, deeper polish.
- Get excited by source material that is already structured: journeys, genealogies, blueprints, catalogues.
- Want your name on the founding design of a new category, not a feature on someone else's roadmap.
Bonus points
- Shipped a daily-habit product or a narrative game with a weekly content cadence.
- Experience designing for older or non-traditional gaming audiences.
- Systems design work on deterministic (non-gacha) collection.
- Background in faith, heritage, museum, or education products.
Portfolio & how to apply
Send us:
- Your shipped games, with store links and your specific role on each.
- One design decision you personally made and the metric it moved (numbers welcome; anonymized is fine).
- A short note on how you would make Scripture playable without cheapening it.
