Job Title: Creative Mentor & Pastoral Support
Location of Work: Perth Creative Exchange
Hourly Rate: £125 per session (4.5 hrs approx)
Hours of Work: 9 hrs per week (2 sessions per week)
Contract Type: Freelance Self-Employed Contract
Duration of Contract: September ‘26 – March ‘27 (Fixed term funding - with potential funding for 2027/28)
Working Pattern: Mondays & Tuesdays 12.30pm – 5pm | Requires some flexibility and additional hours if needed
Qualifications/Skills Required:
- Visual Arts Practice / Training
- Experience of working with Young People
- COSCA Counsellor Training
- Understanding of ADHD / Autism / Neurodiversity

Creative Catalyst is a community interest company run by artists and supported by creative entrepreneurs who are passionate about and have a track record of delivering opportunities for young people to develop their potential, through creative, employability and enterprise programmes.
We exist because we have identified a gap in the equity of provision for young creative people who face barriers to education, employment and training, and we aim for Creative Catalyst to be the conduit for these young people to connect with and learn from the independent creative community of professional artists and makers in Perth & Kinross.
Role
This role is to support and mentor the young people we work with. We are looking for someone to:
- Provide a holistic support framework to our young people including counselling and advice on wellbeing, housing, health and safety, employment, and benefits with signposting to specialised services
- Determine individuals’ learning needs and suitable approach to their evolving creative practice and professional development
- Apply an understanding of neurodiversity including identifying the challenges and strengths of individuals
- Work collaboratively within a creative team and able to adapt to the shifting needs of current cohorts

We are looking for a person who has a combination of skills and experience in:-
- Creative practice
- Counselling
- Youth work
These are all important, but we understand that we are asking a lot from one person, so are happy to have a chat, to find the right person for this role.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Pastoral and creative support for young people at the Monday & Tuesday sessions 1-4pm (plus brief planning before and debrief after sessions)
- Deliver 1-1 mentoring sessions with young people
- Identify and deliver specific support for additional needs
- Exchange information regarding young people in end-of-session debriefs and collaborate with team to develop young person plans
Person Specification
Essential:
- Knowledge and experience of working with young people
- Creative practice experience - any discipline but visual arts would be ideal
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to provide verbal and written information clearly and concisely
- COSCA certificate in Counselling Skills (or equivalent)
- Knowledge and experience of working with neurodiverse individuals
- Ability to manage information and data in a confidential manner
- Ability to work flexibly to meet the needs of the project
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team
- Commitment to Equality and Diversity
- Ability to represent and promote Creative Catalyst to a high standard

Desirable:
- Experience of self-employment or running a small business.

Additional Information
Contracting Organisation: The freelance post will be engaged by Creative Catalyst Scotland CIC
Location of Work: Perth Creative Exchange
Responsible To: Director and Project Coordinator
PVG (Protecting Vulnerable Groups): This post will be subject to a PVG check
Offer of Contractor Engagement: An offer of an engagement of services will be made subject to two satisfactory references.
Taxation (to be discussed with the successful candidate): This is a Freelance Contract for a self-employed person responsible for their own taxation and National Insurance.
Invoices and Payment: Unless specifically agreed otherwise, invoices and timesheets will be submitted monthly by the Contractor and payment made within a few days of receipt of emailed copies.
