Creative Video Producer – Call-Out

We're looking for a creative video producer or video team to make a short, honest, character-led legacy and impact film for Upswing. The film will speak to potential funders, partners and collaborators, but instead of the usual charity impact film, we want you to help shape something bold and unexpected, with the same ambition as any show we’d make. We need someone confident enough to help develop the creative brief, bring together our existing footage, capture interviews and find a genuinely creative way to share our impact

ABOUT UPSWING

Upswing is an award-winning contemporary circus company founded in 2006 by Vicki Dela Amedume. We create visually striking, narrative-led work for audiences across the UK and internationally, with storytelling sitting at the heart of all of our work. We use movement, skill and imagination to create work that captivates audiences and sparks connection, with a wide range of perspectives embedded in what we make.

Our work extends beyond performance; we develop artists, contribute to the future of the artform, and build relationships within the communities and partners that we work with.

THE PROJECT BRIEF

We want the impact and legacy video to show our reach and the difference our work has made over the past 15 years. The film will inspire people to reach out to us to collaborate, invest in and partner with Upswing.

But we are not looking for a corporate promo.

The film will form part of our artistic portfolio and hold its own as a creative project, distinct from anything else we've produced, ambitious and maybe a little unexpected, in keeping with everything else we make.

We want people who have collaborated with us and know our work to tell our story, talking honestly, so the finished piece feels like being let in on something rather than being sold to. As well as testimonials we want to present hard data in a creative way, without ever feeling like a highlights reel or a wall of stats.

The storytelling should weave in the impact we have made, alongside: what we mean by circus. why Upswing? How the work happens on and off stages and in communities. Where it reaches nationally and internationally. Why it matters now. How we are small but mighty (with the help of our freelancers, collaborators and associates), so are always looking for new partnerships.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

WHAT WE NEED

We're looking for a producer (or small production team) to take this from brief to finished film. That means:

  • Taking our rough brief/ideas as a starting point and proposing creative approaches for how the story could be told on screen. (not just a shoot and edit plan, but ideas for how the film should be shaped, shot and told)
  • Proposing and following a workable shoot and edit plan.
  • Managing the process as a whole confidently. Any freelancers needed to deliver the film (such as a videographer or editor), will be managed by yourself. Upswing can work with you to suggest from our pool of freelancers if needed. If you're able to deliver the whole job yourself, we're just as open to that.
  • Leading contact with interviewees and interviews with people - from artists and collaborators to funders and partners, drawing out honest, specific answers rather than generic feedback.
  • Ensuring the film is scored with copyright-free music that fits our organisational voice.
  • Working with and seamlessly including a range of material. For example: newly shot interview footage, existing professional (landscape) footage from past productions, lower quality (portrait) iPhone footage and photos in portrait and landscape.
  • Finding a way to bring numbers and impact data into the film that holds attention rather than sitting on screen as a static stat. (Strong consideration for how to make the work ‘evergreen’).
  • Engaging with the team for set feedback check-points and delivering the final film plus shorter cuts for social media by the agreed timeline.

DELIVERABLES

  • Full video, approximately 3 minutes 30 seconds, delivered with and without subtitles.
  • Social trailer, 30 seconds, vertical format (optional, to be confirmed).
  • Three short reels, 15-20 seconds each that tell different aspects of the story.
  • Lower thirds for all speakers, titles throughout, a closing credits sequence and partner logos at close.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

  • A track record producing and/or directing documentary-style or interview-led film, ideally within the arts, culture or charity sector.
  • A knack for putting people at ease on camera, particularly people who don't perform for a living.
  • Experience working across formats and quality of source material without it feeling like a compromise.
  • Sensitivity to the communities and settings we work in, including health and care settings.
  • Comfortable collaborating closely with a small in-house team, and open to sharing your own ideas on structure and style rather than simply executing a brief.
  • Alignment with our company purpose and what we stand for.

TIMELINE, WORKING PROCESS AND BUDGET

The film will need to be completed for under £6,500 (this to include all fees and expenses) The project will need to runs in three phases:

  • Creative concept development, agreeing aims and objectives and interview plan with Upswing (Sept 2026)
  • Logistics & scheduling shooting schedule (Sept 2026)
  • Selecting existing footage and shoot new content and interviews (Oct-Nov 2026)
  • Edit, post-production and delivery (Nov 2026 - Feb 2027)

You will be in touch with specific members of the Upswing team for liaison, logistics, scheduling and feedback. We'd want to agree a structure of check-ins across both phases so we can stay close to how the story is developing without getting in the way of the process. We need to publish the film in February 2027, with shoot dates to be confirmed with the successful producer.

HOW TO APPLY

The deadline to apply for this role is 5pm Thursday 27th August

Conversations with selected number of applicants will be held between 2 – 9 September with the successful applicant confirmed by the 11 September.

Please send us your take on the brief. Rather than a standard CV submission, we'd like:

  • A short pitch: one initial idea for how you could approach the film, its structure and style, and how you'd bring the brief to life. You can send this in a way that suits you - voice note/video (max 2 minutes) PDF with reference images (max 3 pages) or plain text (max 1 page).
  • A simple initial breakdown of costs, including your project fee and an indicative cost for the crew and days involved.
  • Examples of relevant previous work (links to films, your website, CV, Instagram or Linkedin – anywhere that shows your work the best but make it easy to find!).

Send all of this to recruitment@upswing.org.uk with LEGACY VIDEO PRODUCER as the subject line.

Please note: Your pitch is your own intellectual property. We will not use your pitch ideas unless you are selected.
