Credit Controller

Location: Skelmersdale
Salary: Up to £35,000 DOE

The Opportunity

A well-established international manufacturing and engineering business is seeking an experienced Credit Controller to join its finance team. Working alongside a Credit Manager and Financial Controller within a wider finance function, you will play a key role in managing accounts receivable, reducing aged debt, and ensuring robust credit control processes are followed.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced credit professional who enjoys building stakeholder relationships, resolving customer queries, and supporting business cash flow.

Key Responsibilities

  • Raise accurate customer invoices and credit notes in a timely manner.
  • Manage accounts receivable and ensure prompt collection of outstanding debt.
  • Investigate and understand reasons for overdue payments.
  • Monitor and maintain customer credit limits in line with company policy.
  • Support credit approval processes and ensure compliance with internal controls.
  • Build effective relationships with operational teams and management to support debt collection activities.
  • Conduct regular debtor reviews with business stakeholders.
  • Resolve customer invoice queries and escalate issues where required.
  • Assess new credit account applications and provide recommendations using credit reports and supporting information.
  • Maintain customer and accounts receivable data within the ERP system.
  • Produce customer statements and month-end reporting.
  • Support commission accrual processes and liaise with external agents where required.
  • Assist with Letters of Credit administration and associated documentation.
  • Provide information and support during external audits.
  • Undertake ad hoc duties as required by the finance team.

About You

The successful candidate will have:

  • A minimum of 5 years' credit control experience.
  • Strong experience within a high-volume accounts receivable environment.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Experience working with ERP systems, ideally Microsoft Business Central.
  • The ability to challenge appropriately while maintaining strong stakeholder relationships.
  • A proactive and organised approach with strong attention to detail.

Desirable Experience

  • Manufacturing or engineering sector experience.
  • Project-based or contract-driven business experience.
  • Knowledge of overseas trading, exports, imports or Incoterms.
  • Understanding of credit insurance processes.
  • Membership of the Institute of Credit Management (ICM).
