CREDIT CONTROL MANAGER
Fast-Growth SaaS Business - City of London (Hybrid)
Salary: £48,000 – £50,000
Location: City of London - Hybrid working
Start date: ASAP
Reporting to: Finance Leadership
About the Role
Our client is a fast-scaling, VC-funded SAAS business in the City of London. With its customer base growing quickly, it's creating a brand-new position for its first dedicated collections hire.
This is a role with real autonomy, aimed at someone keen to build a collections function from a blank page rather than step into one that's already up and running. It's an unusual chance to define both the approach and the process from scratch, working closely with senior finance stakeholders and taking genuine ownership of how the business safeguards its revenue.
This role is to start ASAP and so candidates who are immediately available or on short notice will be prioritised.
What You'll Be Doing
- Build, document and take full ownership of the collections process from the ground up.
- Set the cadence and approach for chasing overdue and failed payments — how often customers are contacted and at what point cases get escalated.
- Develop and refine the wording used with customers, from reminder emails to call scripts, improving them over time.
- Take hands-on responsibility for chasing a large portfolio of customer accounts directly, by phone and email.
- Spot genuine billing or service problems and loop in Onboarding, Customer Service and Finance to get them resolved quickly.
- Define when an unpaid account needs to move further up the chain and build clear escalation steps for those cases.
- Keep accurate records and give leadership visibility on arrears, recovery rates, failed payments and the reasons behind them.
- Look for ways to recover more through smarter messaging, tighter processes, and automated payment retries.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What We're Looking For
- Solid, practical experience in credit control, collections or chasing recurring payments - ideally gained in a subscription business or another high-volume customer setting.
- A track record of building or overhauling a collections process, rather than just running an existing one.
- Self-directed, happy to own both the bigger-picture approach and the daily chasing of payments.
- Comfortable picking up the phone and holding your ground through objections, complaints and awkward payment conversations.
- Strong written communication - able to put together customer-facing messages that are clear, professional and get results.
- Persistent and commercially sharp, without losing a professional tone with customers.
- Well organised, able to juggle a large caseload of accounts, follow-ups and escalations without things slipping.
- At ease with finance, CRM or payment platforms, plus Excel or Google Sheets for tracking and reporting.
- A CICM qualification, or progress towards one, would be a plus but isn't required.
