Job Description
Credit Controller
Bristol | Hybrid | £30,000 + bonus + benefits
We’re delighted to be supporting a fast-growing independent commercial lender with the appointment of a Credit Controller to join their expanding team in Bristol.
This is a really exciting opportunity for an experienced Credit Controller to join a business that is growing quickly and places a strong emphasis on customer relationships, communication, and long-term partnerships.
The role would also suit someone with a strong background in customer service who is looking to take their first step into credit control and develop a career within commercial lending.
You’ll receive comprehensive onsite training when you join, giving you the opportunity to get to know the business, systems, and wider team before moving into a hybrid working model.
About The Role
As part of the Credit Control team, you’ll manage your own portfolio of commercial clients and be responsible for maintaining effective credit control while building strong, professional relationships with customers.
This isn't simply a role focused on chasing payments. You'll be expected to understand your clients and their businesses, communicate confidently with them, and take a proactive, solutions-focused approach to managing outstanding debt.
Your Responsibilities Will Include
- Managing an allocated portfolio of commercial clients and overseeing the full credit control process.
- Developing a strong understanding of your clients and their businesses.
- Contacting customers by telephone, email, and letter regarding outstanding payments.
- Completing monthly debt chases in line with the agreed credit control schedule.
- Following up effectively and maintaining detailed records of customer conversations and commitments.
- Reviewing debt records to identify due and overdue payments.
- Negotiating repayment plans where appropriate.
- Identifying cases where solicitor involvement may be required and making recommendations accordingly.
- Responding to customer queries, including invoice and payment disputes.
- Accurately recording collection activity within the relevant systems.
- Maintaining well-organized and up-to-date client files.
- Keeping customers and internal stakeholders regularly informed.
- Providing timely updates to managers and senior stakeholders.
- Reviewing monthly client data and monitoring DSO fluctuations.
- Maintaining unallocated cash below 5% across your assigned portfolio.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
