Dunsters Farm, a family-owned, fast-growing foodservice business supplying schools, hospitals, cafés and restaurants across the North of England is seeking a Credit Controller based at our Head Office in Bury.

Purpose of the Role

To manage the collection of overdue customer balances in line with agreed credit terms, maintaining strong customer relationships while protecting the company's cash flow and reducing the risk of bad debts. The role also provides regular support to the Sales Ledger function, reflecting the close working relationship between credit control and sales ledger activity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensuring customer accounts are kept up to date and in line with agreed credit terms
  • Identifying accounts that are overdue or above credit limit, and contacting customers to request payment
  • Following up on previously chased accounts and escalating appropriately where payment is not received
  • Investigating and resolving queries or disputes that may be delaying payment, liaising with other teams as needed
  • Placing accounts on stop where overdue balances remain unsettled following notice, and releasing accounts once resolved
  • Maintaining accurate notes and records of collection activity for each account
  • Producing and circulating weekly reports on flagged/overdue accounts
  • Raising severely overdue accounts with the Management Accountant once internal escalation procedures have been exhausted, to agree next steps including external debt recovery or legal action where appropriate
  • Assisting the Sales Ledger Clerk & Systems Trainer with capturing bank statements and payment allocations
  • Assisting the Sales Ledger Clerk & Systems Trainer with managing the Finance mailbox, responding to emails and resolving customer queries promptly
  • Providing cover for Sales Ledger tasks during periods of absence or high workload

  • Good communicator with good phone etiquette
  • Proficient in Excel, including pivot tables and lookup functions
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to maintain strong customer relationships while remaining firm and professional
