Credit Controller | Cottons Group | Northampton

Cottons Group is a Midlands-based accountancy practice on an ambitious growth trajectory, rapidly acquiring businesses, expanding teams and building out offices across Northampton, Daventry, Rugby, Lutterworth and Market Harborough. As they grow, they're looking for a Credit Controller based in the Northampton office who'll be a genuine presence across the firm, working closely with Partners and department heads to keep cash flowing and relationships strong.

The Role

This isn't a sit-behind-a-screen credit control job.

  • You'll work across departments including Audit, Tax and Corporate Finance to understand where client queries or billing issues are coming from.
  • You'll need the personality and communication skills to influence, negotiate and get buy-in at all levels – including with Partners.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

What you'll be doing

  • Managing end-to-end credit control across a growing, multi-office practice
  • Liaising directly with Partners and department leads to resolve billing queries, WIP issues and client account problems
  • Building strong working relationships across departments to get to the root cause of payment delays
  • Chasing outstanding debt professionally but persistently – balancing firmness with client relationship management
  • Producing clear aged debt reporting and cash flow forecasts for Partners
  • Getting into the detail: investigating discrepancies, unpicking billing errors and following queries through to full resolution
  • Supporting the integration of credit control processes as new offices and teams are acquired and onboarded

What we're looking for

  • Credit control experience or someone eager to learn and step into their first finance role
  • A confident, personable communicator who's comfortable talking to Partners as easily as clients
  • A natural problem-solver who enjoys digging into the detail rather than simply chasing from a spreadsheet
  • Resilient and persistent, but relationship-focused – you know how to chase without damaging goodwill
  • Highly organised, with the ability to manage multiple stakeholders and priorities across departments
  • Comfortable working in a fast-moving, growing business where processes are still evolving
