Senior Credit Controller
Location: Chelmsford
Working Arrangement: Hybrid
Contract: Full-time
Overview
Our client is an established international insurance organisation seeking a Senior Credit Controller to manage a portfolio of broker accounts across its UK and European operations.
The role will focus on the timely collection and reconciliation of premiums, accurate cash allocation and the reduction of overdue debt. The successful candidate will take ownership of assigned ledgers, resolve complex account issues and build effective relationships with brokers, clients and internal stakeholders.
This position also offers the opportunity to support process improvement, strengthen reporting accuracy and contribute to the achievement of wider business and cash-flow objectives.
Responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio of broker accounts and maintain accurate accounting records.
- Chase outstanding debt and ensure payments are received by agreed due dates.
- Allocate incoming and outgoing cash accurately and within required timescales.
- Review escalated unidentified cash and complex debt issues, ensuring they are resolved promptly.
- Reconcile broker statements and clear unreconciled premiums.
- Investigate collection difficulties and explore appropriate options for recovering overdue balances.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with broker and client organisations.
- Resolve operational queries from internal and external stakeholders within agreed service levels.
- Identify brokers generating high volumes of queries and work with relevant teams to address root causes.
- Analyse credit control data, highlight areas of concern and recommend practical solutions.
- Support the achievement of daily and monthly collection, reconciliation and cash-flow targets.
- Maintain accurate and timely data capture to support management information and reporting.
- Develop and update process documentation and user guides in line with internal standards.
- Complete transactional activities normally handled by extended service teams when required for business continuity.
- Apply relevant business plans and divisional priorities to day-to-day credit control activity.

Requirements
- Experience working within a credit control function.
- Strong relationship-management skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective business relationships.
- Customer service experience and strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Effective negotiation and influencing capabilities.
- Good analytical skills and the ability to interpret detailed financial reports.
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise competing demands.
- High levels of accuracy and attention to detail.
- The right to work in the UK, as visa sponsorship is not available for this role.
