Your new company

Hays Accountancy & Finance are pleased to be partnering with a leading and highly respected organisation near Bury St Edmunds in the recruitment of an experienced Credit Controller. Following continued growth, the business is seeking a commercially minded professional to take ownership of the credit control function and play a pivotal role in safeguarding cash flow and mitigating financial risk.

Your new role

This is an excellent opportunity for an accomplished Credit Controller who enjoys working autonomously, managing complex customer accounts and influencing positive commercial outcomes. The successful candidate will become the primary point of contact for all credit control activities, supporting the wider business through the effective management of a substantial customer ledger.

Reporting to senior finance leadership, you will assume responsibility for the end-to-end management of a high-value sales ledger, overseeing customer accounts with monthly values ranging between £13 million and £18 million.

Key responsibilities

  • Managing and recovering outstanding debt to ensure timely collection of monies owed.
  • Coordinating debt collection procedures for overdue accounts, including escalation to third-party collection specialists where appropriate.
  • Liaising with solicitors, legal representatives and enforcement agencies to support legal recovery proceedings.
  • Monitoring assigned accounts, reviewing aged debt and implementing effective recovery strategies to minimise financial exposure.
  • Investigating and resolving customer disputes relating to invoice queries, outstanding balances and payment discrepancies.
  • Reconciling customer accounts and ensuring accurate maintenance of account records.
  • Processing account adjustments, refunds and short-payment reconciliations whilst maintaining a high standard of customer service.
  • Assessing new customer accounts and obtaining authorisation for credit facilities, including reviewing and adjusting credit limits where necessary.
  • Collaborating closely with Sales teams and senior management to accelerate collections and resolve customer issues efficiently.
  • Building and maintaining effective working relationships with customers and internal stakeholders, including those with complex commercial requirements.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
