About
I am working with a leading Lloyd’s specialty insurer, supporting the continued growth of their Credit & Political Risk portfolio across global markets.
As the team continues to develop, they are looking for a commercially minded Credit & Country Analyst to join the team in London. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong credit, financial markets or economic analysis background to move into a specialist insurance environment and work closely alongside experienced underwriters.
The Role
As a Credit & Country Analyst you will support the Underwriting team across credit analysis, portfolio management and underwriting decisions
You will analyse corporate, banking and sovereign financial information, assess counterparty creditworthiness and help the underwriting team identify and manage emerging risks across the portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyse financial statements, corporate and banking data, country economics and other third-party information to support underwriting decisions.
- Assess the creditworthiness of corporate, financial institution and government counterparties.
- Monitor the existing portfolio for concentration, correlation and signs of credit deterioration.
- Develop and implement structured and consistent credit analysis processes and documentation.
- Work with portfolio optimisation models, risk appetites, group company data, outwards reinsurance and syndicate business forecasts.
- Prepare credit analysis, reports and presentations relating to insurance enquiries.
- Conduct research into global economic, financial and insurance-related topics and assess their impact on the portfolio.
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, coordinating meetings and communicating key findings where required.
- Support strategic and structural optimisation projects.
- Work collaboratively with underwriting and other departments to provide specialist credit analysis and insight.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
